HUNTER ACADEMIES | ▸ BACKGROUND
| The Academies that dot the continent of Kinloch serve as the dedicated institutions to train new Hunters, warriors sworn to defend the nations from the daemon hordes that plague the world of Aedirn. The Academies and both students and staff play a vital role in organizing the defense of each nation.
Prior to the establishment of the Academies, combat training came exclusively from many different combat schools through the continent. The Peace of Galtean Island saw the end of what was known as the Great War and the creation of the Academies, one to each of the then five Nations. The Academies would train Hunters, whose sole purpose would be to fight the daemons, and whose allegiance would not be tied to an individual nation, but rather all of Aedirn. Hunters would possess the freedom to work for whomever and wherever they wished and could choose whatever job they wanted to take from mission boards.
On top of training future Hunters, the Academies also serve another role: Protection of the WorldNet towers which enable communication across the world.
Of the nations that house the academies there are:
• Sanctum of Cambria - Cocoon Academy (Uniforms: Male & Female) • Oceanarian Empire - Babel Academy (Uniforms: Male - Female) • Commonwealth of Elysium - Avalon Academy (Uniforms: Male & Female) • Kingdom of Advent - Eden Academy (Uniforms: Male - Female) • Zorran Confederation - Ridorana Academy (Uniforms: Male & Female) Babel Academy is distinct in that it is the only Academy where the school is part of the state itself. After relocating the Imperial Capital from the city of Oceansburg to the city of Babel, the school, government, and military coalesced into a single entity recognized today as the modern Oceanarian Empire. | ▸ ADMISSION TO AN ACADEMY
| To be admitted to a major academy a typical student must be at least the age of seventeen. Most of these students will have completed the curriculum of a nation’s corresponding combat school while others will have passed an entrance exam in order to be admitted into the academy of their choice. Students may apply to join any academy that they so wish and are not restricted to simply attending an academy within the same nation as the combat school. Such combat schools include:
• Sanctum of Cambria - Pulse Academy • Oceanarian Empire - Nautilus Academy • Commonwealth of Elysium - Olympus Academy • Kingdom of Advent - Archades Academy • Zorran Confederation - Havali Academy
Of course, a few exceptional students may be admitted per the discretion of the Academy’s headmaster or headmistress through a personal invitation. If done through this manner, then a student may skip all of the requirements and attend the academy that they are invited to.
| ▸ CURRICULUM AND LIFE IN THE ACADEMIES
| The Academies work tirelessly to train upcoming generations for the realities of the world that await them. To begin with, new students are put through an initiation process which involves the retrieval of certain objects hidden deep within an area filled with daemons. A stipulation of the initiation process is that the first student that one makes eye contact with shall be partnered together for their tenure at the Academy for the next four years. Being placed into the combat zone can vary with Academies like Ridorana or Avalon opting for podiums that raise the students up to a random place within the zone giving them little time to prepare and work with only what they have available, while others like Cocoon and Babel opt for a more chaotic approach in catapulting their students through the air and forcing them to work on not only surviving the daemons but also making sure that they are mindful of their surroundings.
The objects that are to be retrieved also serve another purpose: Which ever two pairs collect similar objects will be put together in a team for the next four years with one being selected to serve as team leader. From there, the next four years of a student’s tenure are dedicated to becoming hunters. Students are put through many classes both theoretical and practical such as combat training and botany to better hone their skills and survival capabilities. Living in dormitories, the students are encouraged to develop a bond with one another and work together as a team. For the most part this is readily done as the students will often try to compete with other teams, especially during combat training classes; however, it is noted that some students are reluctant to trust others on their team due to any number of things whether due to social class or race as humans and varani maintain noticeable racial tensions.
Every two years, a celebratory event known as the Galtean Crucible is held within a hosting nation. Done in commemoration of the Great War, the hosting nation typically receives students from all across the Continent and diverse cultures are celebrated with dances, parades, and even a combat tournament. The hosting nation rotates every two years and the host will open its borders to visitors from other nations. Headmasters are not expected to accompany their students to hosting nations; however, it is not uncommon for them to do so.
Students are also expected to partake in actual missions across the land in the course of their training. Typically, first year students will embark on low-risk missions are accompanied by seasoned hunters; however, second year students and above may go on missions alone. More dangerous missions may bring students beyond the borders of the nations and involve actual combat with daemons. Aside from providing students with valuable work experience, these missions also serve to keep the nations safe from harm.
